Has it been a while…

Jun 23

My oh My! Its been a while since I updated this blog. I’ve been busy to say the least. Since my last post the iPhone 4 is on preorder, iOS 4 is out with over 100 new features even for us 3G and 3GS users, oh and the Mac Mini has a bit of refresh with its new Unibody self. Bummer its no longer available for $599 entry price it seems to have gone up by $100 (what’s up with that?) Apparently BP repositioned a containment cap on the underwater gulf gusher that’s been causing all kinds of health problems and other issues for those folks living in the affected areas. Hope that the cap holds this time. We’re worried about oil around these parts ourselves mainly gas drilling and hydrofracking.

So what have I been doing these past months. I’ve been diving into the ESRI Flex World a bit mainly for work and also just getting some away time from my computer. Its been fun but I’m seriously wiped out. I’m off to get some shut-eye long day tomorrow. One more thing… there are now 4 groundhogs that have taken up residence on my property we have a bit of an understanding so they stick to the un-mowed areas of the grass. At some point there will be too many of these creatures to manage so I’m looking into a way to deal with their case…

I Use A Mac Because…

Jul 28

I was roving around on the net checking out one of my usual blog stops  when I came across this gem of a video  below (Thanks Christina) with different people sharing the reasons that they use a Mac.

Why we use a Mac

As I type on my Vista laced Dell and my Mac Mini is patiently waiting for me to turn it on and get some serious work done like sync my latest Cha-Ching Info among other things, it made me think of one thing… I could use one of those new 13” Mac Book Pros.  I use both a Mac and PC at home now but prefer the Mac hands down when it come to productivity. Only thing is that my Mini is not particularly portable so I’m stuck using my Dell for the time being. I haven’t had much problems with my computer perse except for OS related issues. If I could legally install OS X on here and not break any of the installed hardware, I would do that in a minute.

Calming Teas

Aug 20

getamacad.jpgI usually don’t make too much of the Get a Mac Ads but I actually got a kick out of one of the latest ones the Calming Teas Ad. See I like teas and usually drink teas with interesting names such as Easy Now, St. John’s Good Mood, Weightless and a host of other with creative names. BTW my favorite of the two is the PC guy even though I’m a Mac user I still prefer the PC guy in the ad. For some reason I find the Mac guy a bit condescending and annoying. The PC Guy seems more real to me. Perhaps its because at work we are a pretty exclusive PC shop. If I had my way things would be a bit different but the IT folks already have their hands full so I can relate more to the PC guy because at work my colleagues are always running around fixing all kinds of networking and other issues… Don’t get me started on that. The ad is fun to watch I do wish the teas could help fix some of those pesky PC problems but who are we kidding :-)

Doozla

Aug 03

I like to doodle when I’m in a good mood. Most of the time I just grab a piece of paper and do my thing but once in a while I get brave and create a doodle to unload on a special person. I’m usually thinking of doodling something specific but now and again I just let the creative juices flow. I’m not great at it my brother is the artist of the family if there is any artist in the family but I just like doing this to have a bit of fun. Anyway, I was looking for a tool to help me do this and for some reason Plasq’s Comic Life jumped into my head right away. These are the same folks that made skitch so I figured that I would start there. Skitch was not exactly what I wanted and Comic Life was not suitable either but while mucking around on thier site I ran into a product that they have called Doozla. They describe Doozla as an easy-to-use drawing application for children (wish my niece had a Mac so I could get her this program). Anyway, true to their word it is easy to use and I have been having a blast doing my random acts of sketching madness. Doozla goes for $25 which is not bad for an app like this but I would have like to see $15 instead. It runs OK on my Mac Mini but I do notice that things tend to slow down a bit when my external HD is being compressed. Overall its the simplest and most straightforward app for the kid in all of us.doozla1.jpg
