Hulu Plus? What About iTunes Plus?

Jun 29

huluplus plus-bottom-devices I was checking Hulu.com this evening and noticed a new subscription based service called Hulu Plus. Essentially, if you want to get the Hulu.com library on your iPhone or iPad you have to pay $10/month. I for one was hoping that they would release a free version for the iPhone similar to their desktop offerings. Will there be a Hulu standard for these devices? They haven’t rolled the service out to everyone yet so for now you have to request a preview (you add your email and answer a few questions). I’m hoping that Apple will have a subscription to their iTunes library esp. the movies and TV shows. Many of us have been waiting for this for some time perhaps the time have arrived. If I’m going to pay money for something like this I would like to get it from one place. Right now I throttle between iTunes and Hulu so I think I’ll wait on this to see what the folks in Cupertino is going to do. Make sense to me that Apple provides this service. Could this be the start of a little competition???

iPad Fever!

Mar 21

meetipadsmall Its almost here… can’t believe its almost April and that means the long awaited iPad will be available. Lots of buzz about it in “Macland…” One place is giving an iPad away (site might be busy) in exchange for ~ 600 old CDs and DVDs you have to have the original artwork and jewel cases though. I don’t think I own that much CDs esp. with the cases. I would love more than anything to have one of them but when you have to decide between that and a bed to sleep on the choice is pretty clear at least for me. Ah I long for the irresponsible days when I could go slap down some cash on an electronic feat of fancy :-) Oh well for now I’ll watch and wait and read the blogs and check out the ‘>cool videos and wait for my birthday perhaps someone will slap a gift on me ;-) (a gal can dream).

G-Speak

Nov 15

g_speak.png

Remember the OS in the movie Minority Report? The one that allowed Tom Cruise to ah scrub the data? if you’re geeky like some people I know, you were wondering when this would pop-up. Well, the wait is over.! A company called Oblong Industries which consists of a team of visionaries and one of the science science advisors behind the Minority report ( Yep that’s right there were real science advisors on the film ), has created an OS called g-speak. Weird name I think but g-speak makes the iPhone interface looks like child’s play and its a bit closer to the interface seen on the Microsoft surface. Don’t take my word for it have a look at the video. They are calling this “the first major step in computer interface since 1984.” I’m just wondering how they are going to pull this off with a regular computer that the average person can walk around with (guess the iPhone is a first step in this direction but not quite there). This kind of make me wonder where Apple and Microsoft got their interface ideas from now that I see this and remember the movie.

This all looks great but if a Surface computer costs ~13 K how much would a setup like this cost. I’m sure we’ll see bits and pieces of this in upcoming OS releases from Apple and Microsoft unless these folks want to enter the OS market which would be most welcome… Apple and MS could use some competition… Windows 7 is slated to have some touch/gesture functionality built in we’re already seeing some of this in the latest version of the Apple laptops… Game on!

Who wants to drive a car named peapod?

Sep 30

Its great to see some of the larger automakers finally making some vehicles that don’t rely so much on gas. However, I’m not so sure that I want to drive a car named Peapod.  Although the Pepod has iPhone integration and all that, it looks more like a toy than a car. The Peapod travels at 25 mph up to 30 miles on a eight hour charge.  This is more suitable for City driving obviously can’t see going 25 mph around these parts.  Anyway, I rather go with the Chevy Volt more of a hybrid I know but more practical if you want to rely on one car to get you all the places you need to go. The Peapod is a nice start and will probably appeal to the younger crowd I actually like the various colors. The car sort of reminds me of some of the cars made by Corbin Motors (The Sparrow ) back in 2000.  The Sparrow gave you 40-60 miles on one batter pack charge and went up to 70 mph. Corbin Motors was acquired by Myers Motors in 2004 and Myers makes an electric car NmG that drives at 76 mph at a 45 mile range on a full charge. Its a bit of a hefty price at 30 K but I’m wondering why the Peapod can’t give you a bit more driving options.
