The Breeze of Springtime

Feb 09

A warm breeze blows across my face laughter is in the distance… So many days with golden leaves playing in shades of pink hue amid deep grey skies. Burst of tulips are scattered across the lawns as if there was a tulip explosion. Is this spring or summer I cannot tell except for that faint cool breeze that keeps coming back just when you think winter is over… Sleep has escaped again for another night and alas I will depart and chase after that warm breeze of yesterday…

iWeb Like & Dislikes

Feb 08

I’ve been using iWeb (Apple’s new easy to use web publishing product, part of the iLife suite) for a week or so now and have to say that in general I like the product but would like to see more than a few improvements. I think that they rushed the produt and the only reason I’m not too annoyed at them is that a release 1 product is ussually buggy so guess I’ll cut em some slack. There is a nice support site available here if you wish to see samples and find out answers to some questions.

What I like About iWeb:

  • The templates- they are really nice
  • The drag and drop ease from your media (audio, iPhoto…) to a page
  • Integration with the rest of iLife in general
  • The general ease of use and user interface
  • The one button publish to .mac or a folder

What I don’t like about iWeb:

  • The unexpected crashes
  • No auto save feature
  • Can’t edit publishing date on blog w/out messing up blog entry order
  • Publishing errors without any explanations
  • Not knowing where the template objects are stored/ coming from
  • The templates are great but could we have a bit more?
  • No code view where you can tinker with the html, div and the like
  • No calendar view on the blog page
  • No comments or permlinks
  • The long urls esp. for your blogs
  • Takes way too long to upload
  • Pages take too long to load in general
  • Images aren’t optimized

BTW here are a few reviews of iWeb if interested.

The Grey Cubicle-More iWeb Goodness

Jan 31

I just finished revamping my iWeb site (The Grey Cubicle). Actually its virtually the same as the last one except that I decided to change the template. This template is a bit cleaner and seems to load faster probably due to very little objects unlike the last template that had all these hidden objects all over the place. Since I remembered to save often this time I didn't lose much. The only thing is that I wish you could simply switch templates w/out a redo like you can in Sandvox or RW. I still say though that Apple is on to something with iWeb it is so easy to use its almost addictive. I also wish that you could change the date and time of your blogs. I had a few blogs from another blog site that I wanted to republish here and I didn't find a way to change the date… The Apple folks didn't think this one through or I'm missing something.

My List of 10

Jan 18

OK I have to say that I got this idea off a site that I was looking at earlier today and thought that it was fantastic. So here is my list of the top 10 people that I wouldn’t mind meeting at some point in my life. I don’t have to become buddies with them but it would be nice to give em a warm hello from the moi. These are not necessarily in order just wrote em down as they popped into my head. I should have compiled a top 20 list instead of just 10 but I’m getting a bit tired of staring at my computer.

  1. Enya
  2. Angelina Jolie
  3. Whoopi Goldberg
  4. Steve Jobs
  5. Djimon Hounsou
  6. Denzel Washinton
  7. Vin Diesel
  8. Condoleeza Rice
  9. Bill & Melinda Gates (OK this is 2 not one but they are inseparable)
  10. Tilda Swinton

Rosa Parks on Apple.com

Oct 26

I thought that it was cool that Apple had a picture of Rosa Parks on the front page of their website. Rosa Parks passed away yesterday at the age of 92. Parks’ refusal to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama bus back in 1955 was a grass-roots event that sparked the civil rights movement. Parks was arrested and fined for violating segregation laws. In response, blacks boycotted Montgomery city buses for over a year, and the Supreme Court ultimately outlawed segregation on buses. The popular photo on the Apple home page shows Parks riding a Montgomery bus in 1956 after the Supreme Court ruling.

Birthday Cake

Oct 13

Oh my today is my birthday and I do feel a bit older. Actually I have some kind of bug or something coz I haven’t been feeling all that well last couple of days. Anyway, it was a great day all in all. On the way walking to work this morning I made up a little song about how I wish there was just a little bit of sunshine. It has been gray and raining all week… so this little song popped into my head and I was singing it out loud on the way to work. Can’t remember it all but the idea was that I wish there was jut a little bit of sunshine. Wouldn’t you know around 10 AM a little bit of sunshine came out for a few minutes then went back in again. It was cool, I’m convinced that God heard my little song and was saying happy birthday to me :-) Anyway, there was a huge cake for me at work and a cool card, a bunch more e-cards from my friends far away and songs on my answering machine from my Family in Florida. I spent the evening having dinner with my friend Rox at this new restaurant in Town and came home and snuggled up to my favorite movie (LOTR). Hey not a bad birthday at all.
